@nicklockwood Of course, implied in all of this is that you *trust* the nullability annotations. Foundation is pretty trustworthy, but a random 3rd party library (or your own code) might not be.

@nicklockwood Never had any problems with this approach. The old school pattern if (self = [super init]) { } Is really just cargo cult now. But if the super init is nullable I use: self = [super init]; if (self == nil) { return nil; } This avoids unnecessary indentation.

@jesse_squires For KVO observing UserDefaults, I built a key path publisher that just uses string key paths rather than swift type safe key paths. Maybe that would work here?
