Not approving the Code won't achieve anything in terms of the law. These MPs are either not bright enough to realise they need to advocate for a change in the law to override sex with gender identity, eroding women's and lesbian's protections, or too dishonest to do just that.

Health Secretary James Murray says he would no longer say 'Trans Women are Women', that single-sex spaces should be protected on the basis on sex, and that sex and gender are different things. This is a big turnaround. In 2022 he defended a male swimmer competing in the female category (Lia Thomas) on the basis that 'Trans Women are Women'.

Excellent news — even if it's a solemn measure of how bad things had got, that we rejoice that the Health Minister knows the difference between men and women, and that the subcategory of men referred to by some as "trans women" are not, in fact, women.

OK, since a few people have missed this, my usage is common amongst people who want clarity about biological sex - otherwise known as 'gender critical' people or 'sex realists' It's also considered. Male and female are biological terms, that apply across species. You can't change sex, so all 'transwomen' are male, and all 'transmen' are female. Male and female are not social roles. With 'man and woman' it's not quite so obvious, so I tend, like others who use this approach to refer to trans-identified *males*, not trans identified *men*. I defend the view that 'man' and 'woman' are not social roles but biological categories and I defend the definition of woman as adult human female, but I want to be crystal clear. So this group of male people 'identify' as the opposite sex, or, sometimes, just as trans, or as some other gender identity (like 'gender queer') that falls 'under the trans umbrella'. Hence, because biology is important, I refer to *trans identified* males and *trans identified* females. I tend to use initials and 'they' when referring to particular people. This does not gratutiously hurt them, and does not force me to saying something that I don't what to say - viz - that trans identified males are in some respect women. I'm now of the view that it is morally wrong for males to identify as women. I was persuaded of this, by this paper by @aytchellesse: journalofcontroversialideas.org/article/6/1/31… Unlike Holly, I no longer refer to transwomen - I don't think it works - but I'm happy for other people to do so. The main reason is that I think that the demands raised by (most, not all) trans identified men are demands that flow specifically from *male* entitlement. It is, I now think, important to capture that in the terms we use. I think it's quite important for *men,* specifically, in this argument to acknowledge and critique the huge male entitlement that is engaged. The worst and most confusing usage is primarily American and consists in phrases like 'male to female transgender.' This is a *nonsense* phrase. I think people should use clear language, and they should spell out why they use the terms that they do. I think people should be self-reflective about thier language use, and prepared to explain and defend their policy, and to change it, if necessary. hth.

You have systematically - and without any consideration for people with possibly traumatic medical conditions - parasitised those individuals for your own purposes. You have weaponised them in the most shocking and ugly fashion. You have made these individuals the lynchpin upon which your entire ideology rests, and you care not one jot beyond that which you can exploit and demean them. You wield DSDs carelessly but deliberately. None of you care about DSDs. You care only about using people to mangle biology. Fuck off.

The trade union UNISON says “Change the law”. But it does not spell out to its members what that would mean. It would mean amending the Equality Act to change “Sex” into “gender identity” - introducing “gender self-ID” in law. But the UK does not want - and will never accept - “gender self-ID.” That is a project pursued only by a shrinking group of deluded fanatics. Meanwhile, UNISON is urging MPs to reject the EHRC guidance - which is not the law, but merely helps service providers and associations keep to the law. Defying it will cost them more money in lost court cases. Employers don’t need the guidance. For them, the Equality Act as clarified by the Supreme Court together with the 1992 Workplace Regulations are sufficient. So who is UNISON serving? Everyone who cares about the rights of women and girls is delighted with the Supreme Court ruling. Everyone who cares about the rights of LGB people is delighted with the Supreme Court ruling. The law is clear. UNISON’s defiance of the ruling shows contempt for all its female and LGB members whose rights were clarified by the Supreme Court. They pay their dues - for what? UNISON is wrong on every level to oppose the guidance. It is confusing its members by saying “Change the law” while attacking the guidance. Its betrayal of its female and LGB members is shameful. What is more, its open contempt for the law is encouraging the reactionary forces that oppose trade unions.

72 years ago today, Diane Leather became the first woman to run a sub 5 minute mile. Sadly, she gets almost no recognition compared to Roger Bannister’s sub 4 minute mile. Women deserve much better then this. Women’s sporting achievements must be celebrated as much as the men’s.
